Mad River Mountain to Open for Winter Season with New $6.5 Million Lodge

Wildwood, Missouri, December 15, 2016Peak Resorts, Inc. (NASDAQ: SKIS), a leading owner and operator of high-quality, individually branded ski resorts in the United States, today announced that Mad River Mountain will open for the 2016/2017 winter season on Saturday, December 16, 2016, with a brand new base lodge, replacing the iconic Mad River Mountain lodge that was lost to fire back in September of 2015. The new $6.5 million dollar facility is an expansive two-level, 46,000 square foot structure that is twice the size of the old lodge. The new lodge also replaces an administration building and guest locker room facilities, and will house nearly all skier services under one roof.

The new, centrally located building offers 180-degree views of the ski slopes and includes fireplaces on both levels, an 800 guest dining area, as well as an expansive second floor that accommodates over 300 guests, including a custom stone-faced bar, slope-side deck, and a completely redesigned food and beverage operation focused on increased offerings. The lodge also features a large retail space, guest services, ticketing, and ski school programs on the first floor.

Guests and season pass holders will notice small features within the new building reminiscent to the one lost to the fire.  The peaked roof of the new lodge features colored clerestory windows as well as exposed trusses, both of which were iconic to the A-frame design of the old Loft Bar.

"The old lodge was a favorite amongst guests and locals,” said Tom Price, general manager of Mad River Mountain. “While this new lodge will feature a ton of new amenities, better views and more space, it was important for us to pay homage to the old lodge and the many characteristics we knew and loved."

Price went on to say that while the building is new, the experience of skiing and snowboarding at Mad River will not change, "Mad River Mountain will continue to offer its guests the best skiing and riding in the state of Ohio. We've already had a wonderful run of snowmaking weather, and I'm proud to say that we'll be 100 percent open for skiing and riding, as well as operating our tubing park, on day one. That hasn't happened in years."

Last season, Mad River Mountain used temporary structures and facilities to house guest amenities in the absence of a main lodge that, while adequate, were not a permanent solution. That, coupled with last year's lack of significant snowfall in Ohio, have many looking forward to this season, including the employees.

"There is already more snow on the ground this year than we had all of last year," stated Price. "I can't wait to let our guests experience the fun on the mountain and explore our new lodge that further enhances Mad River's status as Ohio's premier resort."
